SEARCH

Starting in the upper left corner of MusicBoxLIVE, you can choose to search songs only, or instrumentals only. By default MBL will search both. Below that there are multiple menus: Genre, Tempo, Mood, Instrument, Keywords, Library, Song Theme, Song Lyrics and Song Artist. The last 3 will be disabled if you choose instrumentals only. Your search results can be as broad or narrow as you want. The fewer options you choose, the more results you'll get. Or you can use combinations of menu options for a precise search. If at any time you want to change your selections, click the X next to each selected item to remove them individually, or click Reset to start completely over. GENRE With the Genre menu, you can narrow your search to a specific genre and sub-genre (like Jazz: Latin Jazz). Start by clicking on the Genre tab in the column on the left, and a list of main categories will appear. Select one of those, and another menu will appear listing sub-genres. If you don't see what you're looking for in the menu, try entering it as a Keyword. If you want to see everything within that main genre, select the "ALL" option at the top of the list. You can also select more than one item from this menu to narrow the results even further. TEMPO There are 5 choices for the speed and pace of a track. Uptempo is fast. Medium Tempo covers a broad medium pace. Slow is slow. Varying Tempo means that the track changes tempo and has different sections at different speeds. Rubato means that there is no tempo, and the track is freely performed. MOOD The Mood menu functions like the Genre menu, but it applies to the overall feel and emotion of the track. You can choose multiple items from this list, as most tracks can have a combination of moods. Even contradicting moods can work, as some tracks change in mood as they play out. If there's a specific mood not listed here, try entering it as a Keyword. INSTRUMENTS You can choose specific instrumentation from this list. It covers a broad range, and some instruments are "grouped" as well as listed separately. For example, you can choose Strings if you want an ensemble of Strings, or Violin, Viola or Cello if you want only those solo instruments. If you can't find what you're looking for, try entering it as a Keyword. KEYWORDS This menu is broken into 3 sections. In the top field, you can enter any descriptive word(s) you want. If one keyword doesn't yield any results, try a different variation of that word, such as a different tense or a synonym.
In the middle field, you can enter an exact track title if you already know what you're looking for. You can also search for a particular word in any track titles (ie. finding all the titles in the catalog which contain the word "Morning")
And the field at the bottom allows you to search the catalog by composer, if necessary. If you don't know the spelling of their last name, try entering their first name and last initial.
Be aware that the Keyword search will hit exact words or phrases, but also will hit partial results as well.

LIBRARY

If you want to limit your results to a specific library collection, select it here. You can choose multiple items.

SONG THEME

If you have song-searching enabled (buttons in top left corner), this menu contains common themes of songs in our catalog. There are main categories and sub categories. This menu works exactly like the Genre and Mood menus.

SONG LYRICS

This tab works like Keywords, except it only searches lyrics in songs. If you don't find what you're looking for here, try keywords. Also keep in mind that only the key words and phrases in song lyrics are searchable here. (so if the word "tree" happens to be in a song's verse, but the song isn't anything about trees, it won't be included)

SONG ARTIST

Browse a list of all our song artists here. They are sorted into sub menus by genre. You can also use the ALL option at the top of the sub menu to search all artists in that genre.

RESET

Click the Reset button if you wish to erase your current search parameters and results. If you click away from your search results, this button will change to "Back To Results" so that you can continue reviewing your track list.

BROWSE BY CD

The Browse By CD section allows you to view all the CDs within our entire collection, and includes a brief description of each one.

SEARCH WIZARD

This feature provides you with a pre-selected list of tracks, based on what type of project you are working on. Click on any of the main categories to see a list of sub categories and choose the one which best applies to your current needs. We've carefull selected these tracks using years of music search experience and knowledge of typical music requests, and these lists will continue to change and grow to keep up with modern trends. Hopefully this can save you lots of time, however, if you don't find what you're looking for in our lists, you can always perform a more detailed music search using the descriptive menus on the left. Also double-clicking on the album cover of any one track will take you to that track's CD, which might contain more of what you're looking for.

PROJECTS

The Projects section is a convenient way for you to keep track of your searches. Here you can save a track list that can be viewed and managed every time you sign in. Create and save as many different projects as you want.

You will have to have a user account to use this feature, so if you already have a username and password, be sure to Sign In. If you don't have log-in info, click on the Sign Up button in the upper left corner to fill out an application. To get started with your projects, you'll need to click on New Project at the bottom, and give your new project a name, and enter a brief description, if necessary. Then when you're viewing track info from your search results, click on the + icon next to the title if you want to save it to a project. You will be given a menu to select which project to save to.

Then in the Project section at the bottom, click on your project to see your track list. Double click on each title to see the track info. To the right of each track title you have 4 options. Starting from the left:

-the play button allows you to play the track
-the + sign allows you to add the title to another project
-the down arrow allows you to download the title individually
-the X allows you to remove the track from the project

You can change the order of your tracks by dragging and dropping them wherever you'd like them to be. By default they appear in the order in which you selected them.

To the left of your project track list, you will find 5 options for the whole project:

-New Project allows you to create a new, empty project
-Projects tab opens a menu showing all your saved projects
-Edit Description allows you to rename your project or add/change/delete the notes for it
-Download Project allows you to download the entire track list in your project as a .zip file containing either 320k
-mp3s or 48K AIFs. Be aware that large project folders with AIF files can take as long as 2 minutes to .zip, so please be patient.
-Duplicate Project allows you to copy a project
-Delete Project allows you to delete the project entirely
