DANIEL STEIN
COMPOSER, CO-FOUNDER

Daniel Stein began studying music at the age of seven with the five free lessons that came with his first piano. Fourteen years later, he graduated from Boston's Berklee College of Music.

Leaving Boston, Dan started his professional career as a studio musician in New York City, playing keyboards on records, soundtracks, and jingles. He found himself also composing original music at many of these sessions, and in 1988 relocated to Los Angeles, where he was accepted into USC's “Composition for Film and Television” graduate program.

While working on albums for James Taylor and Joe Cocker, Dan stepped into the role of producer. He began arranging and co-producing with Robert Kraft on television projects for Disney, ABC TV, and Jim Henson, and on several feature film soundtracks. In 1993, he performed and programmed the score for Jim Carrey's first hit feature “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”

Drawing on his experience as an arranger, Dan began writing music for television. He composed the orchestral theme for ABC TV's “Day One” news magazine program, and also composed themes and underscore for FOX TV shows such as “Totally Hidden Video” and “America's Most Wanted.” While composing underscore for A&E's “Biography,” Dan also was busy composing underscore for over 200 episodes of Rysher Television's TV series “Strange Universe.”

Dan has composed underscore for numerous dramas and MOWs for Showtime, and scored the independent feature film “Java Heads.” His work in television underscore also led his career into advertising, where he has composed over 50 national TV spots. These include award-winning work for Miller Lite, “Got Milk?”, Apple Computer, Nike and Chrysler. He is on the roster of composers at Asche and Spencer Music, a company that composed the original score for the film “Monster's Ball.”

Dan also provided music for “Hail Caesar,” a documentary of Sid Caesar's career for Showtime, and a techno/sound design theme for MTV's ”Fanography” series. Most recently, he and partner Joel Goodman founded MusicBox, an LA and New York-based music production company that provides original composition and scoring, as well as over 1,000 tracks from its original music library, to television, film, TV commercial and radio projects. MusicBox provided a combination of original custom music, along with tracks from the MusicBox library, to two of A&E's biggest ever hit TV series, “Family Plots,” and “Dog The Bounty Hunter.” Dan and Joel have just been re-signed to again provide this music for the second seasons of both programs.

Dan lives with his family in Calabasas, California.
